Pupils at an East Yorkshire school are to benefit from a new multi-purpose play and performance area thanks to the generosity of Beverley house builder Peter Ward Homes.
North Cave Primary School is well known for providing extra facilities away from the classroom designed to enhance the pupils’ education and enjoyment but the budget could not quite stretch to complete the latest project.
After parents had given their time, energy and hard work to build the frame of the new stage and play zone at the front of the school, the school realised it did not have the skills or the money to finish the job.
A request was made to Peter Ward Homes, a house builder well known in the North Cave and Gilberdyke area, and the company’s construction director Glyn Harrison, along with parents and staff, put together a plan of action.
Glyn said: “The parents had done an excellent job as far as they could but the base had been down for about 20 years and needed a lot of repair. The school didn’t have the skills to do the job or the funds to meet the cost, which would have run into several thousand pounds so we agreed to help by providing manpower and materials.”
The end result is a wooden framed construction which the school intends to use as a general play area but also for staging events such as plays and concerts. Money freed up by the company’s goodwill has been put towards the cost of maintaining the school garden and providing sheds.
