East Yorkshire-based house builder Peter Ward Homes has helped a village junior soccer team to kick-off 2007 in style with a new strip!

Holme on Spalding Moor Under 9s, through their coach James Clark, contacted the award-winning house builder last year to ask if the company could offer some financial support.

Last week, the 15-strong squad of boys and girls, who compete in the Selby and District Junior League Premier Division, proudly turned out in their new sponsored kit under the watchful eye of their latest touchline supporter, Peter Ward himself.

Peter said: “We receive lots of requests from all sorts of groups seeking financial help. We like to provide some assistance when we can and having spoken with James it was clear that these youngsters are a talented bunch in need of some new kit.

“Hopefully, as well as building new homes in the Holme on Spalding Moor area, we can also look forward to helping some of the budding Beckhams on the ladder to foot-balling success.”

Coach James Clark said the team was grateful and delighted with the gesture. He added: “The team was only formed a year or so ago and last year we achieved a lot more than our initial expectations, winning the league and getting four of our squad scouted by Leeds United.

“We managed all that with just three footballs, a medical box and a hand-me-down strip from the previous bunch so the support from Peter Ward Homes is a real boost to our season.”
