East Riding planning councillors have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a house builder’s plans to build five new homes and create a play park on land near Driffield.
Beverley-based Peter Ward Homes was given the go ahead by the planners after they heard that as well as providing much-needed low cost homes, the scheme at Auchinleck Close would also incorporate a children’s equipped play park and a ‘kick-about’ area.
The award-winning company is to build a terrace of three two-bedroom houses and two three bedroom semi detached homes and access to the site will be via a new entrance from the company’s Southwood Park housing development on the outskirts of the town. Work is expected to start this summer with a completion date set for early 2009.
The company’s managing director, Peter Ward, said: “This is excellent news for us and the local residents. We have been trying to complete this part of the Southwood Park development for some time in such a way that the housing provision helps us to fund the children’s play park.
“Over the next few weeks, we will be finalising the type of equipment needed on the play park, which will be ideal for young children, while the older boys and girls have the kick-about area between the houses and open fields to enjoy.”
Prices of the new homes are expected to start around the £100,000 mark but final figures will not be announced until the summer.
