Beverley house builder Peter Ward Homes has announced its best first quarter for sales and enquiries for several years.

Actual house sales are up several times on the same period last year and the number of enquiries across the region has more than doubled, according to sales director Peter Richardson.

On one site alone, almost a fifth of the total properties to be built over a two-year period have been sold in the past five weeks.

Peter Richardson, said: “Enquiries at all our sites across East Yorkshire and into North East Lincolnshire are running at very acceptable levels, which in a way goes against what we read in some of the national Press.

“While we don’t want to talk about ‘bucking a trend’, it is fair to say that the house building industry, and some other sectors for that matter, are in danger of talking themselves into a trading lull. Issues such as the calls for more ‘affordable housing’ which is in effect subsidised social housing in a different guise, the length of time it takes to obtain planning permission and the apparent squeeze on people’s finances can easily present a picture of an industry heading for recession.

“In reality, people will always want to buy their own homes and upgrade their homes and it is up to house builders to make sure this demand is satisfied. One of the main reasons why Peter Ward Homes continues to be one of the most successful among the regional independent builders is that we stick to our policy of providing a varied range of house types and sizes at prices to suit just about every pocket.

“On most of our sites, you will see a genuine mix of town houses, three bedroom semis and four bedroom detached homes, all built with the same materials and attention to detail.”

Peter Ward Homes are currently building at Goole, Driffield and Immingham while work has just begun on one of two new sites at Hornsea. Work on a further site, a former transport depot at Beeford, is likely to commence later in the summer.
