Attention to detail is everything

In today’s mass market culture where so many of our new-build homes follow a common architectural style, it’s often the little things that set one house builder above the rest.

In the case of one East Yorkshire couple, the act of buying and moving into their new home has been all about the builder’s attention to detail.

John and Joan Walton have just completed the first month in their brand new home at Rawsons Green, Hornsea, the latest development by Beverley-based independent house builder Peter Ward Homes.

Ask John why he is so pleased with his new home and you will be surprised by his answer. He said: “Most of us take for granted that a new house will look good and has been well constructed but in our case it’s the little things that have impressed us just as much as the construction and location.”

John, 72, and Joan have come back to East Yorkshire after living in Spain for the past 10 years. Joan said: “We had an idyllic lifestyle; a lovely home in Andalucia in an acre of land surrounded by lemon trees. We had some wonderful years in Spain but it did have its downside. For example, in the summer the mornings were beautiful, usually fresh and sunny, and after 7pm we would go out and enjoy the evening, but the afternoon hours were often just too hot to bear, with the temperature frequently in excess of 40 degrees.”

Both John and Joan worked at the famous Hornsea Pottery - John in a senior sales capacity and Joan in sales and as a visitor guide – and it’s a quirk of life that the couple’s new home stands on the site of the former pottery.

John said: “Once we had decided to move back to England we started to look around for quality built homes on quality sites. We saw Rawsons Green on Rightmove and made enquiries into Peter Ward Homes. The feedback we received was that this was a company committed to high standards and good customer care. We had lived in Hornsea in the 1960s so Rawsons Green had some nostalgic attraction.

“We have family at both ends of the UK – a daughter and grandchildren in Aberdeen and a daughter and three sons in London – so East Yorkshire, with its good road and rail communications, is a good, central point.”

The Waltons chose The Banbury, one of Peter Ward Homes most popular house styles. With a price of £135,000, this semi-detached property offers three-bedrooms, a lounge and a spacious kitchen/dining room.

John said: “Our new home has everything we need and the finishes, both external and internal, are simply first class. The attention to detail is exceptional. Nothing has been too much for the builder and even though we’ve been in for a month the site manager and the sales team are very keen to make sure we are happy with our new home.

“For the price we paid this is a lot of house. There are plenty of power points, the windows, doors and door furniture are all attractive and of a high quality and outside there is a tap and a power point, again a case of attention to detail.

“Rawsons Green generally is a good looking development with a good mix of house styles. You can see a lot of thought has gone into the design and layout of the site.

“Joan and I started our married lives in a three bedroom semi and we are now back in a three bedroom semi but one which has everything we need, literally from top to bottom.”
